CHAMPION INVESTOR

Frequently Asked Question

What is Champion Investor?

It’s a fun risk free way to learn about investing in the stock market. This reason I set this game up, is because this is exactly how I learned to invest. Many years ago, when I was 16 years old, my A levels economics teacher decided to liven up the lesson by starting a fantasy stocks and shares competition. From that day I was hooked and I’ve been passionate about investing ever since. So hopefully you will catch a bit of this passion too.

How does it work?

If you do well you might appear on the leaderboard but you can check your position under the, “Buy / Sell” option on the website. You have to be registered and logged in to access, the "Buy / Sell" section of the website.

Can I buy and sell companies as often as I want?

No. You can make a maximum of 5 transactions a day. This includes buying and selling. You also can't buy and sell the same company in a 24 hour period. The idea of this game is lot learn to invest, not day trade. Investing is about researching businesses that you think are good value and will grow over time. Day trading is buying and selling quickly, hoping to make a profit on the short term movement of the share price. Share prices can be volatile on a daily basis and over 75% of retail day traders lose money. So the idea is to learn how to research companies, whose value should appreciate and hold them for a longer period than a day.

How many companies can I hold in my portfolio?

The maximum amount of companies you can hold in your portfolio at any one time is five. This way, hopefully you will get to know the companies you hold by researching them. Having too many companies can mean it's difficult to research them all properly. Also while holding lot's of companies can be lower risk, there's also the potential for less reward.

What time of day can I buy and sell?

Buy & selling is not allowed, weekdays, during the following hours: 7:00am - 8:30am 4:30pm - 6:30pm. All share prices are delayed by 20 minutes. Share prices are updated when you either buy or sell a company. All players share prices are also updated between 6pm - 9pm on weekdays.
